More rain and tidal flooding… A stationary front continues to linger over the Mid-Atlantic. Expect cloudy skies and rain again today. Rain could be heavy at times. Winds will shift to the northwest today and will crank up tomorrow. That shift in winds will bring more tidal flooding. Expect “minor” flooding during times of high tide around noon today. We will likely see 6”+ of rain over the next several days. The combination of several days of rain and the strong NE winds will bring us flooding concerns even before Hurricane Joaquin moves our way. Joaquin will likely be closest to VA/NC on Sunday and will bring us even stronger winds and the potential for “major” flooding.

Today: Cloudy, Rain(80%). Highs near 70. Winds: NE 15-25

Tonight: Cloudy, Rain(80%). Lows in the mid 60s. Winds: NE 15-25

Tomorrow: Cloudy, Rain(90%), Windy. Highs near 70. Winds: NE 15-25 G35

Tropical Update

Hurricane Joaquin continues to gain strength over the Bahamas. Sustained winds are near 125 mph with gusts near 155 mph. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles from the center. Joaquin is centered about 80 miles SSE of the San Salvador and moving slowly SW at 6 mph. This storm will continue drifting slowly southwest today over portions of the Central Bahamas. A turn toward the north and an increase in forward speed is expect on Friday. Joaquin will continue north through the weekend and approach NC/VA on Sunday. Joaquin could strengthen to a category 4 hurricane by Friday but will likely weaken as it moves north this weekend.
