Joaquin to move away from Bermuda today

Joaquin is moving toward the north-northeast near 13 mph and this general motion with a slight decrease in forward speed is expected to continue through Monday. The center of Joaquin will move away from Bermuda today.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Bermuda.

Reports from an Air Force Reserve hurricane hunter aircraft indicate that maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 85 mph with higher gusts.  Joaquin is a category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.  Additional weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 205 miles.

The minimum central pressure recently measured by reconnaissance aircraft was 964 mb (28.29 inches).
