York County, Va. – A 66-year-old woman from Newport News died in York County after crashing her vehicle into a tree on Monday morning.
Police say the accident happened at 9:45 p.m. on I-64 eastbound.
Mary Barber, 66, was driving her Hyundai SUV/Santa Fe in the left lane when she tried to make a right lane change. Another vehicle was already in the lane and Barber overcorrected, ran off of the road, into the median and into a tree.
Barber was not wearing a seat belt and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol and speed were not factors.
