Chowan County, NC - A 37-year-old Edenton man has been charged for attacking a convenience store clerk with a machete during an attempted robbery.
Shon Eric Waterfield was arrested Monday.

According to the Chowan County Sheriff’s Office, Waterfield entered Goody’s Convenience Store at 2804 Virginia Road around 8:30 a.m. Monday.
It was then that Waterfield allegedly assaulted the clerk with a machete, swinging it at him.
The clerk fought back and received several cuts to his hands as a result.
Waterfield left the store without taking anything and drove off.
Shortly afterwards, he crashed the car into a ditch and was seen running into a nearby wooded area.
Deputies arrived at the location and sent in a tracking dog.
Waterfield was found around in the woods around 9:30 a.m. and taken into custody.
He has been charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and is being held in the Chowan County Jail.
