Poquoson, Va. – Residents were on edge after they found what they thought was a hand grenade Saturday afternoon.

Poquoson Chief of Police Cliff Bowen told us that a citizen advised crews at Fire Station #1 that they saw what appeared to be a hand grenade in the 1000 block of Poquoson Avenue around 12:20 p.m.

Immediately, Police blocked off the road as the Newport News Bomb Squad inspected the suspicious package. After their inspection, they concluded that the device was not explosive.

They say the device was either an old gutted out military explosive or a replica.

Crews reopened Poquoson Avenue at 12:59 p.m.
