Virginia Beach, Va.- This summer, the craziest race is back at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront — the Mid-Atlantic Hermit Crab Challenge.

On Saturday, July 25th, the hermit crab challenge is coming to 30th Street in Virginia Beach.

Those who want to enter their fast and creative hermit crabs can register starting at 9:30 a.m. and ending at 11:00 a.m.

This summer event brings out hundreds of people each year with almost 300 hundred hermit crabs participating in the race. The fastest hermit crab is given the, “Order of the Mercury Claw” trophy.

However, not only is there a crab race, but there is a pageant too!

The pageant is called the Miss Curvaceous Crustacean Beauty Pageant. Participants dress their crabs up in costumes, and they are put on a display to be judged by judges.

Don’t be discouraged if your crab doesn’t win, everyone goes home a winner with a medal for participating.

This event is free and open to the public to participate and watch.
