Man arrested in connection to shooting of 6-year-old

Norfolk, Va. – Ke’Zar Jones has been arrested in connection to the shooting of a 6-year-old boy last week.

Around 10:00 p.m. on July 3, Norfolk Police responded to a report about multiple shots being fired at a home in the 400 block of Nicholson Street.

The shots were fired at the front door of the home and the 6-year-old boy inside was struck in the head by one of the bullets. The 6-year-old was treated for non life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.

Late Thursday night, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Norfolk Fugitive Unity apprehended Jones after many long hours of surveillance. They tell News Channel 3 that Jones pulled up to a residence in the 2400 block of Nevada Avenue in Norfolk and was quickly taken into custody without incident.

Jones was detained based on warrants for malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He is being held at Norfolk City Jail.

The U.S. Marshals-led Fugitive Task Force consists of law enforcement officers from the U.S. Marshals, Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office, Newport News Police Department, Portsmouth Police Department and Norfolk Police Department. Their main objective is to seek out and arrest violent offenders with outstanding federal and state warrants.
