Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, Watches no longer in effect

Update: The Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and Watches have now expired.

The National Weather Service has extended Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and Watches for most of the area.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 12:30 a.m. for the following areas:

  • Accomack and Northampton, Virginia

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 1 a.m. for the following areas:

  • Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 1 a.m. for the following areas in Virginia:

  • Accomack County, Chesapeake, Gloucester, Franklin, Hampton, Isle of Wight, James City County, Mathews, Middlesex, Newport News, Norfolk, Northampton County, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Southampton, Suffolk, Surry, Sussex, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg and York County

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 1 a.m. for the following areas in North Carolina:

  • Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Gates, Hertford, Northampton, Pasquotank and Perquimans

Thunderstorms that develop through the evening will have the potential to produce damaging winds, large hail, heavy rain and flooding.  An isolated tornado is also possible.
