Portsmouth, Va. - Tuesday night’s storms caused damage to several homes in Portsmouth.

Jane Eure lives in the Port Norfolk section of Portsmouth. She says she watched the storm on Tuesday night.

“It was quiet and then all the sudden the wind started picking up and thundering and lightning,” she says.

Jane’s neighbor’s house in the 500 block of Maryland Avenue had a tree fall on top of it officials tell us.

The owner of the house says he was sitting on the porch and watching the storm when the tree came down. He says he was able to jump out of the way and his neighbors came running down to make sure he was okay.

“It’s a little scary. I kept looking out the window because I could see that the wind was picking up, which took me by surprise. We lost our electricity a couple times,” Jane says.

City officials say that house wasn’t the only one damaged during the storm.

Another house just a few blocks away was damaged by branches from a massive tree that fell.

Crews from the City of Portsmouth were out on Wednesday afternoon cleaning up the mess.
