Norfolk, Va. - Crews had to shut down lanes on Terminal Boulevard in Norfolk on Tuesday after a portion of the road buckled. This may have been caused by extreme temperatures officials say. The area experienced record-breaking temperatures hitting 98 degrees.

This happened on the westbound side at Ruthven Road.

Crews closed the I-564 westbound ramp to Terminal Blvd. It reopened hours later.

On Wednesday, crews with Norfolk Public Works took action to fix the road and get traffic moving again.

Crews worked until late Tuesday night and they returned on Wednesday to put in a more permanent fix.

"This is a major traffic artery to the naval base, and this is called Terminal Boulevard, and so when you have emergencies like this and a high volume of traffic, there is a quick response," says Richard Willard with Norfolk Public Works.
