Virginia Beach, Va. - Virginia Beach Mayor Will Sessoms participated in "Bike to Work Day" on Friday.

Mayor Sessoms took a trip from the Princess Anne Recreation Center to Virginia Beach City Hall -- which is just about a three mile ride!

He even let NewsChannel 3 strap a GoPro to his helmet so we could get a firsthand look at his view.

Mayor Sessoms says this is a fun and healthy way to get around and says the city has made it a priority to make sure that Virginia Beach is a friendly place for cyclists.

"The bottom line is we have a lot of people in Virginia Beach that want to bike. We want to make sure they can. Today's trip is a great example of what has been a success," he says.

The city has made a significant effort to accommodate bikers. In 1986, there were less than 40 miles of accessible bikeways. Now there are more than 250 miles around the city -- both on road and off road.

There's also about 23 miles of state and federal trails in the city.
