Hampton Roads, Va. – Troopers across the Hampton Roads region would like to remind drivers to obey HOV lane restrictions.

State Troopers were visibly present Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in the HOV systems during the morning and afternoon commute. During those four hours of enforcement (6-8 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.), Troopers issued a total of 169 traffic summons, 140 summons for HOV violations, and the remaining 29 were for other traffic related violations, officials tell NewsChannel 3.

A visible traffic enforcement initiative was created to increased traffic enforcement presence within the HOV corridors of Interstate 64 and Interstate 264. This initiative was fueled by the ongoing “Drive 2 Save Lives” Campaign, in which the Virginia State Police and other State Police/Highway Patrol agencies increase awareness of traffic safety issues and reduce the number of traffic deaths and injuries.

State Police will continue their traffic enforcement efforts in the HOV corridor and maintain high visibility to ensure the safety of the commuting public.

Motorists are reminded to move over for emergency vehicles, slow down, or change lanes.
