Norfolk, Va. - Hundreds of sailors are out volunteering their time today.

It's all part of an annual event that they say helps to show the community that their reach goes far beyond the seas.

Digging, painting, and restoring monuments -- that's what these sailors from the USS Abraham Lincoln are doing today.

About 100 sailors took on the work at Norfolk's historic Elmwood Cemetery. More than 1,300 sailors overall are out volunteering across Hampton Roads today, from Norfolk to Suffolk and Virginia Beach.

It's part of their fourth annual volunteer event.

With volunteers at nearly 30 different locations, the Lincoln sailors are expected to put in more than 11,000 hours of community service from landscaping to maintenance, and even mentoring elementary children.
