UPDATE: Driver charged after submerged SUV found near Miller Store Road in Norfolk

Norfolk, Va. – An SUV ran off the road Thursday night and became submerged in water near Norfolk International Airport, NewsChannel 3 has learned.

Police and fire crews responded to the scene, and Miller Store Road was blocked off to traffic. The SUV was submerged into water near Miller Store Road.

Police say diving crews went in to search the SUV, and nobody was inside. Crews pulled the vehicle from the water.

The owner of the vehicle told police that they were driving Thursday night when they accidentally ran off the road into the waterway. The driver and passenger were not injured, and called for a ride home, according to police.

The woman driving the SUV has been charged with Reckless Driving-Alcohol Involved, police say.
