Suffolk, Va. – A woman is now in the hospital recovering after the car she was driving collided with an 18-wheeler on Thursday in Suffolk.

Emergency crews received the call at around 6:41 p.m. about the accident that occurred in the westbound lane in the 1500 block of Holland Road/Route 58. Westbound lanes were shut down and eastbound traffic was down to one lane as traffic was diverted.

They say the driver of a Pontiac Grand Am, a 24-year-old woman, had to be rescued from the vehicle after becoming trapped. They had to use heavy equipment to get her out.

She was then treated on the scene and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the 18 wheeler was not injured.

This accident is still under investigation. The road is now back open.
