Hampton, Va. – Hampton University students and staff members are mourning after the loss of their beloved longtime campus photographer, Mr. Reuben V. Burrell.

He dedicated his life to exhibiting the true spirit of the university.

Burrell passed away Wednesday at the age of 95. He has been the campus photographer since 1949 and in later years, he worked in the University Museum creating his collection of negatives.

Although Burrell did not have any children of his own, he acted as a role model in the community and was a great influence on many children’s lives. He was a mentor and fatherly figure to many generations in the Hampton community.

Burrell archived the past 65 years of memories at Hampton University and has been a key piece in truly portraying the heart of the school. He will be sorely missed and Hampton University will not be the same without him.
