Newport News, Va. – A man demanded a woman’s shoes and then shot at her, Newport News police tell NewsChannel 3.

On Sunday, December 28, 2014, an officer responded to an area hospital in reference to a shooting victim.

A 35-year-old Newport News woman reported that just before 7 p.m., she was walking home when she observed an unknown black male standing in the 3300 block of Madison Avenue. When the woman passed the man, he made a comment about her shoes. The woman ignored the man and a short time later the man, armed with a handgun, approached her and demanded her black and red Jordan tennis shoes.

The woman removed her shoes and gave them to the man, police say. After taking the shoes, the man fired a single shot as he fled the area. The woman was struck in the calf.

The woman then returned home and was taken to the hospital by her boyfriend. She was treated and released from an area hospital.
