Hampton, Va. – A tribute to two New York Police Department officers killed over the weekend has popped up outside Hampton Police headquarters.

The wife of a Hampton Police officer and a Hampton citizen set up the tribute at the “Hampton Protector” bronze statue that sits in front of the Pat G. Minetti Public Safety Building.

A framed note placed at the statue reads, “God keep our police officers safe. Blessed are the peacemakers for they are the Children of God. Do no harm our HPD.”

Since the first few items were placed at the statue, more have been added.

Hampton Police posted pictures and a message of thanks to their Facebook page.

“It’s hard to put into words how much this means to each of us… so we can only say thank you. This is amazing.”
