Portland, OR (KPTV) — Roy Dufek just wanted to do his girlfriend a favor when he stopped by her apartment to help her sell a bed on Craigslist, but now they’re both asking for the help of neighbors and community members in the Hillsboro area as they scour the area to find their missing cat Camo.

While his girlfriend was at work, Dufek met with the Craigslist buyer to offload the bed. At some point, Camo the cat jumped inside the box spring. The Craigslist buyer left the apartment, and, soon after, Dufek couldn’t find Camo.

Knowing Camo isn’t one to run out the door, and knowing the cat would have to get past three sets of doors in their apartment complex, Dufek ran out of options in his search around the apartment. He called his girlfriend, Hayley Crews.

“I called Hayley and I said, ‘I don’t know what to do,'” Dufek said.

“He tried to find Camo when the (buyer) left my apartment,” Crews said. “He searched and searched and tore the place apart. The cat wasn’t there. He told me, and right away, I knew that he had hid in the box spring.”

Crews said the box spring was an old hiding place for Camo that she had taped up, but she untaped it so she could sell the bed. Camo, apparently, rediscovered one of his favorite places to hide from strangers.

“He freezes and he doesn’t meow,” Crews said. “I’m sure that’s where he was.”

So where is Camo now?

Crews lives in the Rock Creek neighborhood. The buyer lives near the Hillsboro Airport. That means it’s a 4- to 5-mile drive that crosses Highway 26. Camo may have jumped out of the box spring somewhere in between. Or he may be somewhere in the buyer’s neighborhood.

The Craigslist buyer was “very helpful,” Dufek said, and allowed them to search the property and garage. Alas, there’s been no sign of Camo there.

There have been two possible sightings, however: one near Liberty High School in Hillsboro and another in the Rock Creek neighborhood near Cornelius Pass Road.

Dufek, an avid user of Reddit, also posted his story there. Hundreds of comments, tips and helpful suggestions have since poured in.

But for now, Camo, with his little white nose, white chin and feet, is still out there somewhere.
