Man accused of hitting middle school student with plastic wheel cover, walking into Newport News business naked

Newport News, Va. – A 24-year-old man is now in the hospital for evaluation after police say he struck a middle school student with a plastic wheel cover in front of Critteden Middle School in Newport News.

This happened at around 7:45 p.m. in the 6100 block of Jefferson Avenue.

Police say the man approached a group of students in front of the school and hit the 13-year-old.

Officials say the student was not injured.  They say the student did not know the suspect.

After leaving the school, the suspect walked into a business in the first block of Tyler Avenue while naked and put a big hole in the wall. An employee inside says they knew the man.

The suspect was found in the Woodfin Road and Jefferson Avenue area.

Charges are pending.
