Man escapes police custody in Newport News

Newport News, Va. - Newport News Police are looking for a man who escaped police custody on Wednesday night.

Around 7:30 p.m., officers approached Tilden Edward Hill, 28, who was sitting in a vehicle in the 500 block of Charlemagne Court.

Officers took Hill into custody for an outstanding juvenile court capias for contempt of court. His hands were placed in handcuffs behind his back.

As officers were searching the vehicle Hill had been sitting in, Hill took off running towards the woods. Officers chased after him until they lost sight of him.

A K-9 unit was called but officers were unable to located Hill.

Additional warrants have been obtained for one count each of possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute ecstasy, larceny, obstruction of justice, and escape from police custody.
