Newport News, Va. - Two teenagers were injured in a drive-by shooting Sunday evening on Madison Ave near 34th St.

According to Sgt. Randal Bailey with the Newport News Police Department, the teens were standing on a porch around 6:30 p.m. when they were shot.

A 14-year-old girl was shot in the shoulder and a 17-year-old boy was shot in the knee.

One woman who didn't want to reveal her identity lived right next door to where the teens were standing. She says she had to take cover with her 10-year old when she heard the shots.

"I was sitting here combing my daughter’s hair and we heard some shots, first I heard some kids come to the corner, all of a sudden I heard some shots," she said. "I just wish it would all stop."

Another mother, Laquisha White, lives around the corner. She has three teenage kids and is now more scared for their safety than ever.

"I was extremely saddened because I heard the kids were just sitting there minding their own business and they were in the crossfire so that’s scary for me," White said.

The two teens who were shot were taken to a hospital.  According to Sgt. Bailey, their injuries are not considered life threatening.

The only description provided of the car is that it was a light-colored, four-door vehicle.

Police were back on Madison Avenue on Monday morning, but at this point no one has been arrested. If you have any information about the shooting, call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
