UPDATE: Service has been restored to all customers.

Chesapeake/Suffolk, Va. – About 2200 customers are without power after a device failed at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. A portion of Chesapeake Square Mall was also affected.

Dominion Power says crews are on the scene of Taylor and Bangor Road in Chesapeake fixing the problem right now.

Officials say the mall was evacuated after reports about the smell of smoke. After an investigation, they found the smell was coming from a malfunctioning HVAC unit and flickering lights around the mall. Crews have cut power to the mall and management is now working with electricians to correct the issue.

They anticipate everyone will have power restored by 10 p.m. tonight.
