Officers in Hampton Roads honored during annual “Top Cop” awards dinner

The Greater Hampton Roads Regional Crime Line Dinner and Top Cop Awards was held Nov. 1 in Newport News.

The annual event is an opportunity to honor local law enforcement.

An officer or team from each department was named "Top Cop" and among them, one officer was named "Top Cop" for all of Hampton Roads.

Civilians and businesses are also honored for their work to make the community safer.

This year's Top Cops are:

Hampton Roads Top Cop - Officer Jeffrey Barber of the Portsmouth Police Dept.

Chesapeake Police Dept. - Officer Selena Beaver and Officer Stephen Weir

Gloucester Co. Sheriff's Office - Sgt. Brad Simmons

Hampton Police Dept. - Officer Matthew Chapman

Isle of Wight Co. Sheriff's Office - Lt. James Pope

James City Co. Police Dept. - MPO Jason Slodysko

Newport News Police Dept. - Sgt. Eric Hires

Norfolk Airport Authority - Officer Vernon Stevens

Norfolk Police Dept. - Fugitive Section: Sgt. Albert Armstrong and Investigators Randolph Brann, Robert Graupmann, Michael Mezo, Lance Roberson and Martin Zelada

Poquoson Police Dept. - Sgt. James Moore and S.A. James Fox

Portsmouth Police Dept. - Officer Jeffrey Barber
