Newport News man charged with abuse of 6-year-old boy

Newport News, Va. – A man has turned himself in after being charged with felony child abuse of a 6-year-old, police tell NewsChannel 3.

On Thursday, August 21, medical personnel at a local hospital saw what they believed to be signs of abuse to a 6-year-old boy who had been brought into the emergency room by his mother’s boyfriend, Eric Sellers, in Newport News.

Hospital personnel immediately notified police.

The child sustained bruising to his body and an injury to one of his lungs while in the care of 22-year-old Eric Sellers, police tell NewsChannel 3.

The 6-year-old boy and his 5-year-old sister were being cared for while their mother was at work.

On August 25, a detective obtained a warrant for 22-year-old Eric Jermaine Sellers of the 13200 block of Aqueduct Drive in Newport News for felony child abuse.

On August 26, Eric Sellers turned himself in to police headquarters at 1:30 p.m.
