UPDATE: This advisory has now been lifted for Yorktown Beach.

The Peninsula Health District has issued swimming advisories for King Lincoln Park Beach in Newport News and Yorktown Beach in Yorktown.

Samples collected on Tuesday at both locations showed that bacteria levels in the water exceeded the State Water Quality Standards.

A sign is posted at the beach alerting the public of the advisory. The sign reads: “Warning swimmers – bacteria levels do not meet state water quality standards, swimming not advised until further notice”.

Additional samples will be collected by health officials today and results should be available on Thursday.

Swimming Advisory issued from 22nd St. to 70th St. at Virginia Beach Oceanfront
