Update: Defense Dept. rocket launch from Wallops Island delayed

UPDATE: The launch from Wallops island has been delayed due to expected inclement weather in the area. The launch is now scheduled between 10:30 p.m., August 16, and 12:30 a.m., August 17.

Wallops Island, Va. – A Terrier-Lynx suborbital rocket will launch for the Defense Department from Wallops Island sometime between 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night and 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

At the request of Defense Dept. project managers, no real-time launch status updates will be available from Wallops.

The launch will not be shown live on the Internet and no launch status updates be provided on social media once the countdown begins.

The NASA Visitor Center at Wallops will not be open for viewing the launch, which may be visible in the Chesapeake Bay region.
