Charges filed against driver in Saturday’s car chase

An attempted traffic stop in Chesapeake Saturday afternoon led to a police pursuit that went through three cities.

According to Det. Boykin with the Chesapeake Police Dept., it all started when officers tried to pull someone over around 1:40 p.m. near Cascade Blvd and Liberty St. in Chesapeake.

The driver refused to stop, leading to a police pursuit that went from Chesapeake, to Norfolk, to Virginia Beach and then back to Norfolk.

According to Officer Daniel Hudson with the Norfolk Police Dept., the pursuit ended around 3:20 p.m at Tidewater Drive and Olney Road in Norfolk after the driver had a minor crash and was taken into custody.

The driver has been identified as 20 year old Deshawn Savage.

It was later learned that Savage has 35 outstanding warrants. It is unknown at this time what those warrants are or from where they were secured.

Charges are pending and there were no injuries reported as a result of the pursuit.

Chesapeake Police, Virginia State Police, Norfolk Police and Virginia Beach police were all either involved in the pursuit or assisting.

According to Police, Dashawn Savage is facing a total of 34 criminal charges, including from Saturday's pursuit.

These charges include: Disregard Police-Stop-Endangerment, Driving on Suspended or Revoked License, Forgery (10), Obtain Money by false pretenses (7), Identity Fraud-Financial Loss>$200 (4), Uttering (4), Use of computer to obtain services>$200 (7).
