Severe thunderstorms cause damage in Suffolk; fire station hit by lightning causing power outage

As severe weather rolled through the area on Thursday night, it caused damage in the City of Suffolk officials say. Even the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Station 1 was hit by lightning. This caused a power outage for about an  hour.

Several areas experienced flooding due to the heavy rain including Locust Street where a vehicle was submerged in water. The folks inside were able to get out on their own.

On Spruce Street, crews had to step in and rescue a family of four after their vehicle became submerged in water as well. Crews received yet another call about the same kind of issue on 2nd Avenue and Constance Road where three vehicles were submerged and another had three people inside who were rescued.

A tree landed on a house in the 100 block of Pitchkettle Point Circle . The people who live in the home had to leave because of electrical issues caused by the incident. There is significant damage to the second story roof.

Trees were also down on Everetts Road, Lake Prince and Milners Road.

A home was hit by lightning in the 2500 block of Indian Trail Road.

There were also reports of more vehicles submerged in water. Another vehicle on Indian Trail landed in a ditch. Cable lines and power lines were also down.

No one was injured in any of the incidents.
