Va. Beach man drowns in North Carolina lake
Halifax, N.C. – A Virginia Beach man drowned Saturday evening while swimming in Lake Gaston.
According to Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp, the victim is Thomas Christopher Boyle, 62, of Virginia Beach.
Tripp tells NewsChannel 3 Boyle was swimming in a cove in the Eastern Shores subdivision of Lake Gaston when he drowned.
Authorities were called around 6 p.m. Saturday; he had been seen about an hour before that.
His body was recovered by divers from the Littleton Volunteer Fire Dept. and Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad around 10:30 p.m. Tripp says Boyle’s body was about 20 to 30 yards from a pier when it was found.
The Sheriff’s office says at this point, they do not know about the circumstances leading up to the drowning.
