The Hague in Norfolk proved to be a safe spot for Florentijn Hofman’s Rubber Duck to float for a week back in May. Unfortunately, one of the Dutch artist’s ducks wasn’t so lucky during its time on Nanming River in China’s southwest Guizhou Province.

The 59-foot-tall (the Norfolk duck was 40-feet-tall) disappeared around 5:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday after heavy rainfall flooded the area.

Even though the duck weighs 1 ton, and was sitting on a 10 ton metal platform anchored to the riverbed with steel wires, it was easily dislodged by the storm.

“The duck flopped over and was flushed away really quickly by the torrential flood,” exhibition co-ordinator Yan Jianxin tells the Wall Street Journal’s China Real Time blog. “It disappeared right in front of me.”
