Chesapeake, Va. - Fifty eight formerly homeless people were driven out of their temporary homes at a Chesapeake apartment building because of a fire Tuesday night.

Water forced the electricity to be turned off and food spoiled.

NewsChannel 3 decided to take action.

Armed with $500 of the boss’ money, we went shopping at the Walmart on Tidewater Drive in Norfolk.

We had a shopping list and a handful of cash and we were going to spend it to get the residents of Heron's Landing back on their feet.

It took several trips, but we spent the 500 bucks and then some, almost $100 bucks more.

But we did not have to worry about the extra because Walmart helped to foot the bill. They also helped us load up the news truck and get on our way to Chesapeake.

It was our pleasure to deliver the goods to the pantry at Heron's Landing.
