18-wheeler hauling bricks overturns on Gates Road

Suffolk, Va. – The Suffolk Police Department and Suffolk Fire & Rescue team responded to two separate accidents which have caused some issues with detours and closures of affected roadways, officials tell NewsChannel 3.

Emergency Communications received a call at 12:33 p.m. on Tuesday regarding an overturned 18-wheeler in the 7900 block of Gates Road.

One lane of traffic is currently shut down in that area as the roadway is cleared.

The truck was hauling a load of bricks.

There were no injuries and the accident is under investigation.

Rescue units also responded to a single vehicle accident which occurred at 12:48 p.m. involving a passenger vehicle which struck a Dominion Virginia Power pole at the intersection of Wilroy Road and Nansemond Parkway.

The female driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle, declined medical treatment, officials say.

A detour is currently in place at Progress Road up to Wilroy Road.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
