County bans sale of alcohol in wake of Hurricane Arthur

Hyde County, NC  – If you were looking to get in a glass of wine this evening, you may be out of luck if you live in Hyde County.

Today the county prohibited the sale of alcohol between 5 p.m. until 8 a.m. Friday.

They also announced a curfew for Ocracoke Island between 8 p.m. tonight and 8 a.m. Friday morning.

The curfew will be effective for Mainland Hyde as of 10 p.m. Thursday night. Though 8 a.m. Friday morning.

This area is expecting significant impact from the storm.  Those who choose to stay on Ocracoke Island during Hurricane Arthur should take all precautions. There is no pre-equipped shelter on the Island and if you choose to ride it out, you will have to be self-supporting.

This storm is expected to be a category 2 hurricane by the time it reaches the coast.

Officials are advising residents to secure loose outdoor objects, have plenty of drinking water and non-perishable food items as well as batteries.
