UPDATE: The Town of Duck has canceled their Thursday night concert and Friday 4th Parade and concert.

Tiny American flags surround houses along one of the Outer Banks' largest 4th of July parade routes.

A parade in the town of Duck is still scheduled for the same morning Tropical Storm Arthur is expected to hit the area.

“We want to be absolutely certain about the call we are going to make when we make it,” says City Manager Chris Layton. “It’s considered one of the best in the country and we hate to cancel it which is another reason why we want to take as much time to make that final decision.”

For the McWilliams family, excitement is dwindling down as Arthur approaches.

“I was dumbfounded. I didn't think that it was hurricane season. I thought August, but I wasn't expecting it in July. I'm hoping that from all the work that they have put into it and all the effort that they've done, that it can happen at 9 a.m. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.”

Employees inside Tullio's Bakery are keeping their fingers busy working hard preparing not for Tropical Storm Arthur, but for the 7,000 people expected to come out for the parade.

For the bakery, sales go up 40% on July 4th alone, but they can plummet if the parade is canceled.

But as of right now it's still on.

The city manager will make a final decision tomorrow night at 5 p.m.
