Yorktown, Va. – A Yorktown mom has been charged with child neglect and public intoxication, according to Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.
On June 6, 2014 at 8 a.m. deputies responded to a home in the 700 block of Hornsbyville Road to inquire about some trash left in a neighbor’s yard.
Deputies arrived at the home, and reported two juveniles living in deplorable conditions there.
The mother appeared to be severely intoxicated, officials say, and unable to care for the children in her condition.
When the deputy went outside, the intoxicated woman, Wendy Atencio, came out into the backyard and became belligerent with a neighbor.
Wendy Atencio has been arrested and charged with being drunk in public as well as child neglect.
