Hampton, Va. - On Friday, flags across the Commonwealth of Virginia will fly at half-staff to honor Tuskegee Airman Grant Williams, Sr.

Williams, who is from Hampton, died Sunday morning at the age of 94.

He spoke with NewsChannel 3 about two years ago when the movie about the Tuskegee Airmen "Red Tails" hit theaters.

Williams, an original airman, served in World II and then later in the Vietnam War.

For his impeccable service that spanned four decades, he was awarded the Bronze Star, and, along with all the Tuskegee Airmen, a Congressional Gold Medal.

There was a viewing held on Thursday for the retired chief master sergeant at Smith Brothers Funeral Home on East Mercury Boulevard in Hampton.

On Friday, there will be a memorial service for Williams at the Hampton University Chapel.
