A driver has been arrested and a woman remains hospitalized with serious injuries after climbing through the sunroof of a vehicle and falling from the roof onto the roadway while near the Gilmerton Bridge on Tuesday evening.

The driver of that vehicle, identified as 39-year-old Kimberly Coleman, has been arrested and charged with DUI and Driving on a Suspended License. Court documents filed in Chesapeake reveal Coleman's license was set to be reinstated in just under two weeks.
Police say the 49-year-old passenger was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries after falling from the roof. She remains in serious condition.
According to police, the woman climbed through the sunroof of a 1999 Oldsmobile as it was traveling westbound across the bridge.
The driver reported that an attempt was made to pull the woman back into the vehicle but it was unsuccessful.
The woman then turned around on the roof, facing the rear of the car before losing her balance and falling into the roadway.
It is unknown how fast the vehicle was traveling, how long the woman was on the roof, or why she was there in the first place.
The incident remains under investigation.
