A 46-year-old truck driver died Saturday after suffering from what appeared to be a medical emergency while driving earlier that night.

Virginia State Police say Suffolk Police received numerous calls Saturday night around 11:16 p.m. about a tractor trailer driving recklessly on Rt. 58 and Pitchkettle Road.

Suffolk Police encountered the truck and say it was driving erratically. Officers say they attempted to pull the tractor-trailer over, during which time the truck hit a guardrail, accelerated and decelerated speed, and continued to drive recklessly, endangering other motorists.

State Police assisted in the pursuit and were able to successfully stop the truck on westbound I-64 near Indian River Road in Virginia Beach.

The driver, identified as 46-year-old Alex Eugene Senegal, was removed from the vehicle and it was at that time that troopers discovered that he appeared to be in distress.

Senegal’s vital signs were checked and they immediately began CPR. He was transported to Sentara Leigh Hospital where he later died.

The incident is still under investigation.
