Newport News, Va. - A 38-year-old man was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday after he was shot at a bus stop.

This happened at 4:51 p.m. at 79th Street and Marshall Avenue.

Police say a green SUV drove up to the stop and someone leaned out of the passenger side.

A suspect fired three shots and one hit the man in the lower right side.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The SUV was last seen driving into Hampton.

Anthony Trower lives nearby.  He was in his bedroom when the shots rang out.

"My wife said, 'Oh my God, it's gunshots.' And I heard a second shot. Oh yeah, it's gunshots."

Phyllis Garner rides the route twice a week to go to church. She says the shooting does not really worry her.

"Gotta be more careful," says Garner.

No other details have been released.
