On Monday, June 16th, the North Carolina Department of Transportation will close the bridge on Burnt Mill Road over Bethel Creek located south of Hertford in Perquimans County.

The bridge will be removed and replaced by crews for McLean Contracting Company of Glen Burnie, Md.

A suggested detour route will be in place, using Snug Harbor Road, U.S. 17 and Perry Long Road.

The bridge was originally constructed in 1958 and is considered structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. While safe for use, it is deteriorating and needs to be replaced.

The bridge is scheduled to reopen to traffic in October.
