Newport News, Va. – A 19-year-old father has been charged with child neglect after he was found lying in his own vomit outdoors after apparently smoking spice.
On May 29 police were called to the 300 block of Split Rail Circle over a man smoking what was believed to be spice.
Officers found 19-year-old Robert Smith laying on the ground in his own vomit at around 9:44pm. Smith was transported to a nearby hospital where it was found that he had left his 1-year old baby boy home alone.
Police were sent back to the residence and arrived at approximately 10:31pm and notified Child Protective Services.
The child’s mother returned around 11:15pm.
Smith was charged with one count of felony child neglect and one count of public intoxication.
