Portsmouth, Virginia - Three people were transported to the hospital after a two vehicle accident Thursday night in Portsmouth.

Police responded to the accident around 11:50pm in the area of Portsmouth Boulevard and Mayflower Road .

Police say a white 2-door vehicle was traveling eastbound on Portsmouth Boulevard from Chesapeake. The white vehicle hit the left rear tire of a green Saturn causing the wheel and rear axel to break away from the Saturn.

The white vehicle then continued down Portsmouth Boulevard hitting a power pole, several trees and mailboxes before coming to a stop.

The woman who was driving the green Saturn sustained minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital.

Two of the three people in the white car were pinned and had to be cut out of the vehicle by Fire and Rescue. The third person was not pinned.

They were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this accident.
