A North Carolina man is now behind bars in Dare County, and is facing drug charges.

On Thursday, May 22, 2014, the Dare County Narcotics Task Force conducted an investigation into a person allegedly selling prescription medication.

The task force conducted a felony traffic stop in Kitty Hawk. Officers approached the vehicle, as the suspect was attempting to destroy evidence by swallowing the illegal prescription medication.

While officers were trying to secure the suspect, he moved his vehicle to leave and ran into the back of a law enforcement vehicle. The suspect then locked himself in his vehicle, and officers were forced to break a window to gain access.

The suspect was then secured.

He was transported to the Outer Banks Hospital for minor injuries sustained during the arrest, and for observation.

An officer also suffered minor injuries due to the broken glass and was treated on scene.

After several hours of observation, the suspect was released and transported to the Dare County Detention Center.

The suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Aaron John Stonesifer of Harbinger, N.C.

He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon; altering criminal evidence; possession with intent to manufacture/sell a schedule II controlled substance (felony); and sell/deliver schedule II controlled substance.

Stonesifer remains in the custody of the Dare Country Detention Center.
