Three rescued by Coast Guard after becoming lost on Hog Island

Three people  — a mother, her daughter and daughter’s friend, were rescued by the Coast Guard on Sunday after becoming lost and disoriented on Hog Island on the Eastern Shore.

According to the Coast Guard, they were contacted at approximately 8:00 p.m. by the boyfriend of the mother.

Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders dispatched a crew on an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Elizabeth City.

The crew arrived on scene at approximately 9:30 p.m. and located the victims. A swimmer was lowered and the victims were hoisted into the helicopter and transported to the Accomack County Airport in Melfa.
