Norfolk, Va. - Wednesday night Bonita Ward was frantic, desperate to find her son. He was one of two men shot on 28th Street and Newport Avenue. She rushed home from work, not knowing if her 18-year-old would make it.

"I’m thinking I don`t know where my baby was shot and I’m worried about the little ones too, where was they at when this happened," Ward says.
Her son will recover. He was shot in the shin.

When ward finally got to the hospital--

"I grabbed him and kissed him and thanked God that he was here for him to kiss and hug me back and just the smile on his face seeing me there he was alright then," she recalls.

Neighbors tell NewsChannel 3 they heard nine or ten gunshots. One bullet hit a window outside Ward’s apartment building.

"I feel if they were shooting that high they could`ve hit him in the head,” she says. “My baby could`ve been dead. That`s all I can say."

Ward is a mother of nine. She says most of her children were outside during the shooting. With the bullet holes that riddle the outside of their apartment, she says it's clear they aren't safe anymore.

"My kids can`t come outside no more," she says.

Both men are expected to make a full recovery. Investigators are still looking for the shooter. If you have any information that could help, call the Crimeline at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
