Man seen taking piping, wiring from old Cradock High School turns himself in

A burglary suspect turned himself in to Portsmouth Police on Sunday.

Police say they were called to the old Cradock High School in the 4300 block of George Washington Highway on Friday around 11:00 a.m. to investigate a burglary.

A citizen told police that a man was taking metal and copper piping from the site, loading it into a pickup truck.

The citizen was able to get a picture of the suspect.

Police inspected the building and found that stainless steel sinks, copper piping, copper wiring and other metals appeared to have been staged by an exit door to be removed from the building.

No one had permission to be inside the building or remove anything.

The man was identified as 52-year-old Arthur L. Bellamy of Norfolk. He turned himself in to detectives on Sunday. He has been charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny, felony Destruction of Property and Assault.
