Virginia State Police have arrested a man in connection with the highway shooting of a Norfolk City Police officer that occurred in 2001.

VSP say that on December 6, 2001, the officer, Leroy Daniels, was traveling to work along I-664 in Chesapeake in his personal vehicle when his vehicle was shot by the driver of a passing vehicle.

The case remained unsolved for the past 12 years until a Suffolk Police Detective approached VSP with new information earlier this year.

The Suffolk Police Detective, J. Lyons, and VSP Special Agent P. Compton were able to identify Haywood Doron Reid of Suffolk as the person who shot at Daniels’ vehicle.

Reid was arrested and charged with attempted aggravated malicious wounding and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Reid was taken to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail and was then transferred to the Chesapeake City Jail and is being held without bond.
