Norfolk, Va. - Shae Kelley, a 6-1” forward on the women’s basketball team, has indicated her intent to transfer for her final year of eligibility, according to the Old Dominion University website.

Kelley earned her undergraduate degree in sociology from Old Dominion University on Saturday. The junior this past season has a remaining year of eligibility and has indicated she will pursue a master’s degree and play at the University of Minnesota.

“Shae indicated her desire to play her final year at a BCS level university to me this spring,” said ODU head coach Karen Barefoot. “While we are disappointed she won’t return to ODU next fall, I am extremely grateful for all that Shae has done to elevate our program, both academically as well as competitively. She has done everything we have asked of her and more and we are so pleased that she has earned her degree from Old Dominion University. I wish only the best for Shae and her family in the future.”

In March, Kelley joined an elite class at ODU, becoming just the fifth Lady Monarch to score 1,000 career points in her first two seasons at ODU. The Denver, Colorado-native was also named to the First Team All-Conference USA squad, as she averaged 17.8 points and 9.7 rebounds per game this past year.

“I want to express my gratitude and heartfelt thanks to everyone within Monarch Nation for your support and love during my time as a student in Norfolk and playing as a member of the women’s basketball team at Old Dominion. Coach Barefoot and the entire women’s basketball staff have become family. I look forward to new academic and athletic opportunities in the year ahead and I wish everyone at ODU continued blessings as the program prospers and grows.”
