Corrections officer flown to hospital after train slams into vehicle

Sussex County, Va. – A 50-year-old corrections officer has been flown to the hospital after a train slammed into the vehicle he was driving.

State police say they responded to the incident at 2:51 p.m. on Monday.

They say Duane Anthony Hodges was driving his 2004 Honda Acura on Ridge Road and Halifax Road. They say he drove his vehicle around the crossing guard arms.

According to WTVR, Hodges is a corrections officer.

The Amtrak Train was going north at around 70 mph and carrying about 560 people when it crashed into the vehicle.

No one on the train was hurt, but Hodges was flown to MCV with life-threatening injuries.

Police are still investigating and they say charges are pending.
